DOS Social Media Vetting and Revocation of Student Visas

As of June 18, 2025, DOS has directed consular posts to resume F, M, and J visa interviews under expanded vetting procedures requiring full review of applicants’ online presence, including social media profiles. All otherwise-eligible applicants will be initially refused under INA §221(g) for further vetting, with consular officers documenting findings—including screenshots—and assessing potential derogatory information.
